Delaware Journeyperson Exam Information

According to the Bureau Of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for electricians is $51,880.

Journeyperson Electrician licensure in the State of Delaware allows you to perform electrical services under supervision while you gain additional experience and master the skills that you will need to pass the examinations for Master, Limited, Master Special or Limited Special Electrician licensure.

To apply by exam, you must submit Verification of Employment forms showing at least 8,000 hours of full-time experience performing electrical work under the supervision of a licensed master electrician, master electrician special, limited electrician, or limited electrician special.

  • If you cannot obtain a form for one or more periods of employment (e.g., your former employer has gone out of business), you may substitute tax form W-2s for those periods. However, you must include a letter explaining why you cannot obtain the form and a detailed outline of your experience.

The Board of Electrical Examiners must approve you to sit for the examination. The application is available on the State of Delaware site listed below.

When the Board has approved your application, the Board office will send you the examination registration form.

Starting April 15, 2016, all Electrical examinations will be based on the 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC). You must obtain a minimum score of 75% to pass the exam. After you pass, submit the following to the Board office:

  • copy of the examination results showing the passing score
  • proof of liability insurance of at least $300,000
