Delaware Master Exam Information

Guess what? The median annual wage for electricians is $51,880 (Bureau Of Labor Statistics).

Get ready for the exam with the Delaware 2014 Master Electrician Study Guide, available at Brown Technical Publications.

The Board of Electrical Examiners issues licenses to master electricians, master electricians special, limited electricians, and limited electricians special. Master special and limited special licenses limit practice to certain specialties such as elevators or HVAC. The Board also licenses electrical inspection agencies.

If you completed a registered apprenticeship program, submit your certificate to apply for any license. If you did not complete such a program, then experience can qualify you for a license:

  • Master – 6 years experience, or 4 years experience plus 2 years technical training
  • Limited electrician – 3 years experience
  • Master special – 6 years experience in that specialty
  • Limited special – 3 years experience in that specialty

The Board must approve you to sit for the examination. The application is available on the State of Delaware site listed below. When the Board has approved your application, the Board office will send you the examination registration form.

Starting April 15, 2016, all Electrical examinations will be based on the 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC). You must obtain a minimum score of 75% to pass the exam. After you pass, submit the following to the Board office:

  • copy of the examination results showing the passing score
  • proof of liability insurance of at least $300,000
